Microgaming Smashes New World Record
It's official! Microgaming's Mega Moolah video slot game has made history by being awarded Guinness World Records title for the largest jackpot payout in an online slot machine.
The Isle of Man based software group shared the achievement with the jackpot winner, Jon Heywood, and the online casino where the jackpot was hit, the Microgaming powered Betway Casino.
In October this year, Heywood tried his luck on Mega Moolah slot at Betway Casino and hit the massive jackpot on the progressive slot game. The Cheshire based military man made history by taking home €13,213,838.68 (17,879,645.12) on a mere 25 p wager.
While it was understood that the Mega Moolah jackpot narrowly passed the last world record on Mega Fortune slot by Net Entertainment, it was only this week that the fact was made official. Evidence had to be submitted by Microgaming and the casino, while the consumer watchdog group, eCOGRA also had to ratify the facts.
Microgaming Celebrates Proud Moment
The chief executive officer of Microgaming, Roger Raatgever said that when news broke about Jon's jackpot in October, everyone was overjoyed, especially since his was such a heartwarming story. Jon Heywood said at the time that he would spend his newfound fortune on finding a solution for the health problems plaguing his father.
"Weve achieved many industry records over the years, but to be officially awarded a Guinness World Records title is a special and proud moment for us all," said Raatgever. "It cements our position in providing the largest and most exciting progressive jackpot network in the industry. We cant wait to hang the certificate in our office reception!"
Guinness World Record Confirms Title
A spokesperson for the Guinness World Records commented on Microgaming's new title for Largest Jackpot Payout in an Online Slot Machine Game.
"Im pleased to confirm that the Guinness World Records title for the largest jackpot payout in an online slot machine game is 17,879,645.12, which was won by Jonathan Heywood, while playing Microgamings Mega Moolah on Betway's website," said the spokesperson. "And Jon is certainly in the moolah now, thanks to his exceptional stroke of luck."
