Microgaming Poker Tournament Raises Charity Funds

Last year, the online casino software provider, Microgaming hosted a charity poker tournament on the Isle of Man to raise funds for the Diana Princess of Wales Care at Home Trust.

Over £5,000 was raised that evening, and this week the check was handed over to the charity by Microgaming executives, including the group's CEO, Roger Raatgever.

The Isle of Man based charity is the only provider of 'Hospice at Home' services on the island, and provides respite and end-of-life care to residents in their homes. Patients and family members are offered high quality nursing care through this service.

Since the trust relies solely on donations, it turned to Microgaming's Play it Forward initiative to host a charity evening, and the group responded enthusiastically.

Microgaming Charity Poker Challenge Cup

The fun poker event was held at the Claremont on the Isle of the Man, and the winner was handed the Charity Poker Challenge Cup.

Ten poker tables were set up and were full of action, including corporate Sit 'n Go's and poker tuition for absolute beginners.

The winner of the cup was Chris Blake from Lloyds Bank who had his name engraved on the cup as its first winner.

"We have had amazing support for this event," said the chairman of the trust, Ron Spencer. "We receive no Government funding and rely on legacies and the generosity of donors and fundraisers to support our work in the community. We provide help at home for patients on the Island who are suffering from terminal or life-limiting illnesses, and evenings like this make a real difference to the services which we can provide."

Spencer added that the welcome funding would assist in securing provision of additional nursing care to help meet the anticipated demand of 2016.

Microgaming Play it Forward

The Head of Microgaming's Play it Forward, Claire Colemand added: "The Diana Princess of Wales Care at Home Trust is a one-of-a-kind Manx charity that provides crucial services to island residents. Last year Microgaming hosted a charity poker tournament in aid of the Trust, which raised over £5,000."

"Having witnessed the charitys commitment and hard work, naturally we were very keen to support them once again. We know the donation will go a long way."
