Third Microgaming Soapbox Race Coming in September

After having completed two very successful Soapbox Race events in the Isle of Man, the third Microgaming Soapbox Race is coming in September this year. Entries for the race are now open. The race will take place on September 3rd, 2016.

The Microgaming Soapbox Race

The Microgaming Soapbox Race first took place in 2014. After having shown itself to be successful, it was repeated again last year, and is set to take place again this year. Entrants make their own soapbox karts, and can choose wacky designs to add to the fun. Last year saw a number of interesting karts, including a green wheelie bin, and a double-decker bus.

Last year, there were 41 competitors who raced through the streets, with Team Bonnag ending the race in first place. There were a number of fun awards too, such as the Most Botched Kart, the Biggest Jump, and the Best Crash. The excitement and fun spirit certainly prevailed throughout.

Elliott Moore, the organizer of the Microgaming Soapbox Race event, said: “I am delighted that the Microgaming Soapbox Race is back for a third instalment. What started as just an idea has turned into an annual entertainment fixture that gathers huge crowds on the streets of Douglas, and importantly raises a great amount for a brilliant local charity. I’m busy planning the 2016 event, which is sure to be a great night out for all!”

Proceeds Go To Hyperbaric Isle of Man

The proceeds from the soapbox kart race go to Hyperbaric Isle of Man. The Isle of Man charity provides hyperbaric oxygen therapy for patients who receive health benefits from the use of pressurised chambers. In 2014, the race raised about £3,000, and in 2015, £4,000 was raised. With a total donation so far of nearly £7,000, Microgaming hopes that this year will bring in even more money for the local charity.

David Downie from Hyperbaric Isle of Man, commented: “We are very grateful for the donations and exposure that we have received from the previous two soapbox races. Funds raised to date have been put towards the purchase of a new hyperbaric chamber, to accommodate up to 25 patients at a time. We hope that this year’s event will help us achieve this goal.”

Microgaming’s Head of PlayItForward, Claire Coleman, said that it has been rewarding to see the even grow. She noted that in addition to raising funds for charity, the event is a great evening of entertainment. Coleman added: “Thanks to everyone who made the 2015 event such a success - here at Microgaming we’re already planning our 2016 kart!”
