Highlander Slot Planned by Microgaming

 In 1986, the movie Highlander, based on the story by Gregory Widen, was released to the big screen. Three decades later, and Highlander has a cult following that is still going strong.

The online casino software group, Microgaming, has once more recognized the attraction of developing an online slot based on such a popular brand, and has signed a licensing agreement.

The deal will ensure the launching of a new Highlander slot game based on the original movie. The film is set in historical Scotland and New York City of the '80s, and features the immortal Scottish swordsman, Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert).

MacLeod's mission is to confront his last immortal opponent to come out with the big prize at the end.

Revisiting Epic Story on the Reels

The latest branded slot deal was signed between Microgaming and Studicanal, and the agreement was brokered by Creative Licensing Corporation.

According to both sides, the 243 ways slot game will go live at Microgaming online casinos on Wednesday, December 6th.

Stephanie Kupperman, speaking for Creative Licensing said about the new game: "Many of the iconic characters from classic 'Highlander' are featured in the slot, including Christopher Lambert as Connor MacLeod, Roxanne Hart as Brenda Wyatt and Clancy Brown as The Kurgan. We think fans are really going to enjoy revisiting this epic story, and seeing their favorite heroes and villains in game format."

Highlander is Cult Hit of the 80s

The Games Publisher at Microgaming, David Reynolds, called Highlander "one of the great cult hits of the 80s."

"With its action-packed storyline and hefty rock inspired composition, it is a fantastic brand for an online slot," he said.

Reynolds revealed that Microgaming's game studio was busy completing the slot that captured all of the movie's magic. He explained that the game's features would incorporate the historical Scottish Highlands and gritty New York City, "with a classic movie poster arty style and blistering guitar tracks."
