Microgaming Sponsored Swimmer Breaks Record

A member of the Microgaming sponsored Isle of Man Para Swimming team has broken a five year old British record.

12 year old Letisha Ellis set the Great Britain deaf swimming record in the 50 meter freestyle event for 12 year olds. She set a new record twice in a matter of weeks, ending off her season well.

Letisha is the first member of team Microgaming Isle of Man Para Swimming to break a British age group record.

Excellent Season for Microgaming Team

It has been an excellent couple of years for Microgaming Isle of Man Swimming team. Last season, Letisha Ellis and her fellow-swimmers, Tom Callister and Ben Grainger all won British medals.

Letisha bettered that achievement by recording a record time of 31.84 seconds at the British Junior Para Champs in Sunderland. This was a five-year standing record.

In July, Letisha improved her own record by clocking in at 31.70 seconds during the Microgaming Sprint event at the National Sports Center.

Letisha's parents were thrilled by their daughter's win, saying that, as parents, they never thought that she would be able to achieve what she had due to her hearing loss.

"Letisha has proved to parents, coaches and peers what she is truly capable of," they said.

"To find out she has broken the Great Britain deaf swimming record in the 50m freestyle at the Sunderland para championships was amazing. Then she did it again at the Microgaming sprints."

"As parents we are bursting with pride and overwhelmed by her success," concluded Jo and Ste Ellis.

Microgaming Plays it Forward

In 2015, Microgaming announced that its charity PlayItForward initiative would be extending its support on the Isle of Man with the establishment of the Microgaming Isle of Man Para Swimming Team.

The online casino software group became the title sponsor of the team, and contributed towards the cost of the pool, coaching and travel.

"It is our pleasure to support this flourishing team; we hope that this announcement will encourage more youngsters living with disabilities to get involved in this enjoyable sport," said the Head of Microgaming's PlayItForward, Claire Coleman at the time.
